Selkie Song (Young O’Kane)

A shadow rose from out the sea
Cradling a newborn, (in search for a lady)
To nurse the babe for seven years,
Til he returns from whence he came

Though this wee boy's heart beat cold
A local girl raised him as her own
Around his neck, he wore a chain of gold
He swam away at seven years old

Young O'Kane feeling the sea's pull strong
Young O'Kane singing the Selkie song

To a gunner then, the girl was wed
Autumn colours seeping in (bleeding red)
October moon, all full of gin
He held his gun against his chin

At Young O'Kane, he took his aim
The golden chain he blew it free
She said, "What have you done? He was my son"
"I hunt the people of the sea."

Young O'Kane, feeling the sea's pull strong
Young O’Kane, (and you know by the name)
singing the selkie song

about

TRÚ

The trú was a mythological trio of poet-musicians in ancient Ulster. They were revered throughout Ireland, some believing their songs and stories came to them from the future. Others maintained that the trú were possessed by spirits during performance. As such, they were considered gatekeepers to the Otherworld.

New album 'Eternity Near' out September 8th.
